Contribute to the World Bicycle Relief

Thank you for your interest in helping the Revolutions for Relief team accomplish an important goal of the journey by making a contribution to the World Bicycle Relief.  Our goal is to raise enough money to build 100 bicycles, enough for an entire impoverished school to benefit from the power of increased mobility.  Each bicycle costs approximately $134 in manufacturing and local training and assembly costs to place in the hands of students in Africa and Asia, but once there these students experience tremendous improvements in productivity and access to economic development opportunities for years to come.

Learn about the World Bicycle Relief

A second major objective of the Revolutions for Relief team is raising awareness for the World Bicycle Relief and what they do.  It is truly amazing just how impactful a bicycle can be, especially in those communities where it may be the most advanced form of transportation.  World Bicycle Relief channels this power and uses it to drive communal productivity and growth.

Impact
Simple sustainable mobility in the form of a bicycle multiplies a person’s effort and efficiency with improved access to healthcare, education and economic development, especially when compared to the alternative of walking.

Healthcare: Brings healthcare to patients and patients to healthcare.
Education: Brings educators to the field and students to schools.
Economic development: Sustainable mobility is a fundamental requirement in all economic systems. Bicycles multiply an individual’s efforts by:

• Bringing goods and services to market
• Enabling workers to get to jobs or find better jobs;
• Fueling an individuals entrepreneurial drive - entire businesses can be run off the back of a bike

Time
During a typical day of 10 miles travelled, a bicycle saves 3 hours.
Walking - 2.5 miles per hour
Bicycling - 10 miles per hour

Effort
As time increases, effort to travel increases. Riding a bicycle requires less effort, allowing one to travel farther in less time.

Capacity
Riding a bicycle increases one's capacity by 5 times.

Distance
Over equal units of time, one can ride a bicycle over four times the distance as one walking.
